In the operation of the reverse osmosis system, we often add the following types of RO antiscalant.
Polyphosphates RO Antiscalant
Polyphosphate RO Antiscalant is the first scale inhibitor applied in RO system, and Sodium hexametaphosphate (SHMP) and Sodium triphosphate are most commonly used.
This type of RO Antiscalant has a high phosphorus concentration and is easily hydrolyzed into orthophosphate, resulting in Ca3 (PO4) 2 precipitation. On the other hand, polyphosphates are a nutritional source for microorganisms, which can promote the growth of bacteria and algae and accelerate membrane fouling. And additional acid must be added during use. Moreover, this type of agent is ineffective in inhibiting CaSO4 scaling. Therefore, these types of scale inhibitors are increasingly being replaced by other scale inhibitors, and their current applications are few.
Organic phosphate RO Antiscalant
Organic phosphate RO Antiscalant were developed and developed in the 1960s, and significant progress was made in the 1970s. Typical RO Antiscalant include hydroxyethylidene diphosphonic acid (HEDP), amino trimethylene Methylphosphonic acid (ATMP), etc.
It mainly inhibits scaling by slowing down crystal growth and lattice distortion, both of which coexist, making this type of agent also have a threshold effect.
This type of RO Antiscalant has a lower phosphorus concentration and lower hydrolysis degree compared to polyphosphates. However, when the water contains iron or other Suspended solids, the RO Antiscalant effect of this agent becomes more or less poor. This type of agent has a good effect on inhibiting CaCO scale. In addition, phosphates also have a good inhibitory effect on silicon scale.
Polymer RO Antiscalant
In recent years, polymer RO Antiscalant without phosphorus and environmental pollution have been widely used. Typical monomers of such polymers include acrylic acid, methacrylic acid, Maleic acid, 2-methylene succinic acid, etc.
This type of RO Antiscalant mainly suppresses the formation of sediment through lattice distortion and dispersion, and also has a good threshold effect. Moreover, the scale inhibition performance of such agents is generally not affected by chlorine gas and other oxidizing biocides.
Although polymer RO Antiscalant based on acrylic acid do not contain phosphorus, they are generally non biodegradable. The new scale inhibitors developed in recent years, poly (Aspartic acid) (PASP) and poly (epoxysuccinic acid) (PESA), not only have high efficiency in scale inhibition and dispersion. Moreover, it is environmentally friendly and has biodegradability, making it a hot research topic both domestically and internationally.
